I always had it in my mind that I could have never been cyber bullyied. Since our discussion this week in class I realized how prevalent true cyber bullying can be. We mostly assume that cyber bullying really only happens in middle and high school aged children. However, increased use of Facebook and Myspace and other forms of communication technology is causing cyber bullyies from all ages.
Bullyies can now use these forms of communication to harass, threaten, or torment others. According to a cyber bullying article, by using new technology to harass others their messages can arrive to that person faster then just face-to-face bulling. Also, what the bully is using to harass with could spend to other people very quickly. According to StopCyberbullying.com there are many reasons that bullyies will send you an offensive text message or write something nasty on your Facebook wall.
The new technology we are using to communicate is providing an opportunity for people (who would never do this in person) to bully others. Since the bully can hind behind their computer or cell phone they will never have to directly harass someone face-to-face. With the more communication technology we use the amount of cyber bullying cases will continue to increase.
Recently, I had someone cyber bullying me. A 21 year old adult! If wasn’t our discussion on the topic I would have never known it was cyber bullying. I would have normally just thought it was an immature person who could not say offensive things to my face and had to say it via instant message or text. However, now I know what this really was. This was cyber bullying by a grown adult. I began to wonder how many people this happens to and they do not even know that it is actually considered cyber bullying. Is there anyway to stop this or are we just creating this for ourselves since we keep decreasing our face-to-face communication?

It is sometimes easier to say something through the internet than it is to say is face-to-face. Like a letter. Did you ever get so mad at your mom that you couldn't talk to her about it and it was just easier to write it down? I know I have. I don't think i did that because i think writing is one of the best forms of communication. I think i did it because it was easier not to see the look on my mom's face when I told her that i was upset. With cyberbullying i think it might be the same way. I know that I'm the kind of person that wishes she could think of a good come-back when she needs it. (Much like shopgirl in "You've got mail") and maybe its easier to yell at someone through the internet than in person. I mean if you are in high school or elementary school you'd get in trouble for starting a confrontation at school. It just shows the bullies insecurities. Good Luck with the bully! lol you could always block them! They just don't know how to yell at you in person.
I do relate closely to this subject. Being an English major, I naturally find that writing something down is so much easier that saying to a persons face. When Im made at a friend or roommate, I usually write down exactly what I need to say, otherwise, I can't say a word about what's bothering me. I have never bullied or been bullied, or maybe I have, but I fear for the kids growing up in this generation that can be so easily totured. Bullying is a whole new ball park then when I was in high school or middle school. It was always the big kid that beat up on all the other little ones. Now, through cyber bullying, the person doesn't have to be huge or intimidating, they just have to know how to use their words to harm people, and I think that's a scarier society.
Cyber bullying is unfortunately a growing problem with our generation as well as younger generations. I believe we have all been "cyber bullied" at one point in our lives. Cyber bullying is not only focused on teenagers. Technology, as you stated in your blog, has made bullying very easy and I would venture to say it has made it too easy. As we discussed in class, parents and other role models must monitor what their children are doing on the internet. If parents do not become involved in their children's internet use they will be oblivious to the problems that potentially face them.
